There is so much here. You are one block away from Dotonbori so its right where you want to be. Plenty of Restaurants and stores for shopping. As for the Room its very nice, More of a traditional Style with Tatami Mats and Futons. But has a western style bathroom. SO make sure to get the Iced Matcha it is very good and refreshing. Especially after the train ride from Tokyo or a long plane ride from wherever. It's just the right thing to start your time in Osaka.

Lobby or reception in Yamatoya Honten Ryokan Osaka

The room was spacious and had an attached balcony. We were given a room on an upper floor as we had asked. The room came with a low table and a tea set and the tea was refreshed every day as we drank it. The staff were wonderful. The Onsen was so refreshing! The ryokan was less than 5 minutes’ walk from Dōtonbori which was very convenient!

Facade/entrance in Yamatoya Honten Ryokan Osaka

Traditional Japanese style hotel (Ryokan) overlooking the Dotonbori canal - great location and so easy to walk to so many attractions. Our family of 3 enjoyed sleeping japanese style on the tatami floor for 4 nights. The bed is prepared for us on the first night and we folded up during the day. In the basement there are public japanese bath rooms gender specific, which are opened late, which was a great way to end the day. I would recommend this experience for all travellers as a relaxing way to end the day. We didn't pay for breakfast as part of the accommodation however one morning we decided to try a japanese breakfast which included grilled fish (we had to cook on a little grill), miso soup, rice, pickles and egg. It was tasty and well worth trying. In our room we had a lovely little balcony area where we sat and over looked the canals and waved at the passing boats. It was fun seeing the lights and night life of Dotonbori. If you stay on a Friday night you will see many japanese people coming to Dotonbori for a night out. We loved the vibe of our location. Even thought it was noisy we found once we closed the window and shut the blinds it was quiet and we were not disturbed by any noise. The closest train station Nippombashi was very close and handy. We also found so many things in our neighbourhood all walking distance - shopping area Shinsaibashi and Namba, Kuromon Ichiba Fish Market and Den den town (similar to Tokyo's Akihabara with electronics, games and anime). This was one of our favourite places to visit

This is a traditional Honten Hotel experience. The rooms are tatami flooring. You sleep on firm thin Futons with cozy down comforters. (if you don't like the firmness, you can double up the futon for more cushion. A room head for futon beds that could be rolled out. There were only two of us staying in the room, and it was spacious. The room has a refrigerator in the dressing area, and the staff puts fresh bottles of drinking water on top of the refrigerator each day. There is a closet with fresh towels and yukata robes. The TV picks up local channels and we were watching the baseball tournament live the few nights we stayed there. There is a sink at the entry and a place to put your shoes before entering the tatami floor. The bathroom is a classic modular bathroom with short, deep tub and classic bidet toilet. They offer breakfast, which you have to reserve the night before. Breakfast is fine and delicious, but I went out to eat in the neighborhood for more variety. This hotel is one of the older buildings in the area. Probably 100 years old. The lobby is very warm and inviting with lots of places to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning. The hotel is right across the street from the start of the Dotonbori shopping/dining district. The food is fabulous and I was able to find a midsize piece of luggage on wheels at a terrific price. I would definitely stay in this hotel again. I love the classic experience. Despite being on a busy intersection, it was very peaceful and easy to sleep. They have blackout shades behind the traditional screens. The basement has a nice hot public men's and women's separate traditional bath and soaking tub.

Spa and wellness centre/facilities in Yamatoya Honten Ryokan Osaka

Firstly, I would like to say that this hotel is in an amazing location right across the road from Dotonbori Bridge and the Canal. You can't be in a better location to be close to the action. It's about a 5 minute walk to the closest station or about 10 minutes to Namba Station which is an easier access train line. This is a traditional Japanese style hotel (ryokan) and some rooms have futon style beds on tatami mats. I was travelling with my Mom and a friend, we chose a 3 person room with private bathroom and we were lucky to have 2 single beds as my Mom wouldn't have been comfortable on a futon. My friend was fine in the tatami room and it gave us somewhere to chat and hang out later at night. They even have an onsen in the basement.

We booked a Japanese style room (to try) for our family of four and we really enjoyed it. The room was big enough and the futons were really comfy. The hotel staff was really nice and welcoming. We were visiting so much during the day that we were too tired to use the Onsen, which was a real shame, so I would suggest to do less walking to have time to use and relax in the baths. The hotel was really nice, close to Donburi but not too close. There are lots of less touristy places, which we prefer, just few streets away from Donburi where you can find really good food.

Food and drinks in Yamatoya Honten Ryokan Osaka

I have always loved the traditional Japanese style rooms with tatami mats and futon beds so because of those aspects, I really liked this room. Other than this, the location was also great and right next to the Dotonbori district. When we first arrived, there was only a table with 2 chairs in the middle of the room and we were told that someone will arrive between 5-7pm to put the futon beds which they did. It was a little uncomfortable since we were coming from a long journey and wanted to lie down straight away but overall, not too much problematic because we checked-in closer to that time anyway but if we checked-in earlier than I think it would have been. The shower was comfortable. Overall, it was a good stay.

This is a great little place to stay. The room we got was spacious and simple, room was clean. Staff was professional, and they helped with everything we needed, huge thanks. Also, they have a teacher who knows to dress the ladies in Kimono properly, and they have some available for guests. Location is great too.

The location was excellent! It is just off the main strip of Doutonbori - so it was an easy walk to all the shopping, entertainment, and restaurants. The breakfast was also really delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was very helpful, especially handling our luggage transfer and even printed some documents that we had forgotten to print. The room was traditional Japanese, but it had all the amenities that we needed. And, of course, the traditional robes were fun.
